Summary:There are many ways in which soil can be formed. In a tropical country like Singapore, weathering of rocks is the most common way in which soil is formed. Residual soil is found in most parts of Singapore, and it is caused by the in-situ weathering of the parent rock. The objective of this project is to investigate the effect of pore-size distribution on permeability of residual soil from Jurong formation. This report covers the experimental techniques for deriving the soil-water characteristic curve to provide a series of data, which will subsequently be used to predict the pore-size distribution and the permeability function. A series of tests have been carried out to determine the pore-size distribution, as well as the coefficient of permeability of the soil. The different equations showing the relations between the soil-water characteristic curve, pore-size distribution and permeability will also be highlighted in this report.
