Description
Summary:Purification of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) has always been expensive and dangerous due to the equipment and resources used. Studies had always been ongoing for the improvement in purification of SWCNTs due to the excellent mechanical and electrical properties SWCNTs possessed. In this Final Year Project (FYP) report, literature reviews had been done to comment and compare on the current methods of purification of SWCNT. Also, a new and improved method using water and SDS was used for the purification of the SWCNTs will be discussed. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) will be used for the evaluation on the effectiveness of the method and improvise methods will be used during the course of the experiment. It was found that using only water and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), a surfactant, can improve the purity of the SWCNTs through TGA analysis. However, introducing new impurities such as metal nanoparticles. Acid treatment will be used for the removal of the metal nanoparticles.
