Description
Summary:Q460C steel is a Chinese steel grade of Low Alloy High Strength Structural Steel. It is commonly used for extensive engineering structures where high strength is essential. Additionally, it has high resistance against corrosion at low temperature. Therefore, it is important to analyse the microstructure of Q460C to fully utilise its capability. The aim of this project is to prepare samples in both rolling and transverse direction before proceeding to reveal their microstructure. The microstructure of a sample will influence its mechanical properties and the usefulness of the sample in engineering applications can be assessed. Metallographic samples will be prepared and their respective microstructures will be observed under Optical Microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope. Samples will be analysed and compared with reliable sources to validate the results. Hardness test will be performed to find out the strength of each sample and determine its usefulness in engineering applications.
