China has become a major power in the world and have shown its tendency in flexing its economic and political influence over countries in order to bend it to its will. Singapore being a majority-Chinese country outside of greater China is susceptible to China’s influence gain. Studies have been done to understand the perception of China on the general population of many countries in Singapore. However, these studies lack deeper information on different segment of Singapore population like age, ethnicity and other demographical background. Hence this paper attempts to research and understand the perception of Young Singaporeans aged 20 – 29 and their subset demographics to better understand their perception of China and their foreign policies preferences in dealing with China. Through a questionnaire survey using quota sampling to get the proportionate required participants. The results collected revealed that in general Singaporeans aged 20 – 29 held unfavourable views of China but would prefer to maintain status quo relationship with them in the future but however when forced to choose between the United States or China most would have chosen United States. However, the different subset of the target population is revealed to have different results and opinion. Future research can be built upon this research to study and understand more about the perception of Singaporeans in the future especially among different demographics in a diverse Singapore.
