Lee Yee Hui School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering DRNTU::Engineering::Electrical and electronic engineering::Wireless communication systems This report document the preparatory work of the joint collaboration project between NTU and DSO National Laboratories of the flight trial performed on the 12th February 2009. The objective of the project was to characterize the air to land channel of the wireless link using a frequency of 5.69GHz in the C Band. A comprehensive study and calculation was discussed with the interest to see the ducting effect over the sea channel at Hosba. Flight plans were also constructed to maximize the potential for the signal to achieve this effect. Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) sounding technique using Pseudo-Noise (PN) was generally employed for channel characterization of the trial with two antennas at the receiver end. Channel measurement analysis was attained by observing the PN signal power and Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) of the two channels logged by the Oscilloscope. Several parameters were identified and explored, which might had caused significant variations of the signal in the air to land channel.
