In modern times, rogue waves can cause damage to cargo & tanker ships. For this report, a survey of rogue waves with respect to modern times is done. The introduction includes the definition of rogue waves, the different types of rogue waves seen & how rogue waves are formed. Then, a survey of rogue wave –prone areas is done. The survey involves comparing the oceanography parameters. By comparing these parameters, this report will determine if the presence of any particular parameters will lead to a more rogue wave-prone area. These parameters are 1) Ocean Currents 2) Swell Wave Height 3) Swell Wave Period 4) Trade Winds 5) Ocean Floor (Fracture Zone) 6) Gulf Stream 7) Rogue Wave Incidents This report will highlight 2 particular areas of interest to investigate. 1) East Africa Coast: 40-50 S, 40-60 E & 2) West Africa Coast: 40-60 S, 0-20 E. The parameters of these 2 areas are compared to see if any particular parameters lead to rogue waves being formed. Finally this report will conclude on whether any particular physical oceanography will lead to a higher probability of rogue waves being formed. Also future directions which could be taken for this report are discussed. Rogue waves are large waves which appear spontaneously in deep ocean waters.
These parameters are 1) Ocean Currents 2) Swell Wave Height 3) Swell Wave Period
4) Trade Winds 5) Ocean Floor (Fracture Zone) 6) Gulf Stream 7) Rogue Wave Incidents
This report will highlight 2 particular areas of interest to investigate.
