One with vertical drain installed in the core of the sample and one without vertical drain installed. 4 different types of water pressure will be applied to the sample in each experiment. From the data collected from the Rowe cell, we will then analyze and compute the results that are obtained. Comparison of the change in settlement in clay sample with and without vertical drain and the comparison for the change in volume in clay sample with and without vertical drain will be seen in detailed. In theory,it is said that the final magnitude of the consolidation settlement is the same, only the rate of the settlement is being affected. It is then concluded that the installation of vertical drain in the sample will accelerate the speed of the consolidation settlement of the clay.
