Description
Summary:This report presents the experimental details of the bamboo as structural members for a bamboo house. This bamboo house will be adapted by rural countries and disasters areas due to lack of materials and financial aspects. This bamboo house uses mainly bamboo as the construction materials for both primary and secondary structures. Beside bamboo, we will also adopt a small amount of wood, Kangaroo Adhesives, natural fiber ropes and nails. Experimental testing have been done for this report, which included compression test, tensile test, bending test, buckling test, wooden peg test and joints test. This report will be focusing on compression and tension testing. After detail researches and considerations, there are several things that affect the strength of the bamboo which include the nodes, thickness, diameter and length. As bamboo is a natural material therefore it is difficult to get an accurate result. For examples, the straightness and splitting of the bamboo itself will affect the overall results. As the research of the experiments are still at the fundamental stage, therefore more further experimental researches are highly recommended to enhance the results and performance. One copy of this report will be submitted to Lien Institute for the Environment (LIFE) of School of Civil and Environmental Engineering as a report for their support to this study and using this report as a guideline for future projects.
