Description
Summary:In this competitive and challenging globalized market, product development cycle becomes shorter and in the fast pace. Most of the companies have changed their business strategy from producer driven economy to consumer driven economy. The company produce and manufacture their product not only focuses on the quality of the product, but also takes into consideration the customers’ feeling and emotion towards their product in the product development process. The company that is able to make their product different from others and unique will beat its competitors and be the winner in the market. Much research such as Kansei Engineering, QFD, etc has been conducted to study the customer behaviour and their feeling. Kansei Engineering was proposed by Professor Mitsuo Nagamachi in 1970. It is a study that translates the customer emotions and feeling into the consideration of product design principles. Study showed that product features, such as shape and color of a product may influence the customer perspective when they purchase the product. In this work, an approach is proposed to study the relationship between product form and color in Kansei Engineering. Accordingly, a prototype Kansei Engineering System was constructed to aid designers in better understanding customers’ sensory requirement towards the form and color of a product. A case study on mobile phone design was conducted to illustrate the prototype system. The results were promising and revealed the potential id the proposed approach.
