Description
Summary:In the field of precision engineering, there are many fabrication methods and fine blanking is one of them. The aim of this project is to investigate the viability of using fine blanking to fabricate micro parts that can be used in the MEMS industry. For this report, the author will be using a specially designed fine blanking press to fabricate micro parts from three varying thicknesses of aluminium samples, i.e. 0.0125mm, 0.020mm and 0.030mm. Following that, the parts will be analysed for their consistency in their diameters and also the extent of the parts surface aberrations. With the results obtained, the author will evaluate the effectiveness of the press and the suitability of the material used. Besides this, the author also conducted an investigation to find out how using lubrication during fine blanking can affect the edge quality of the fine blanked parts.
