Samsui Women have been adored by many Singaporeans due to their good qualities such as independence and perseverance. Despite having similar job scope as the Samsui women, one would notice the different and complex attitudes that Singaporeans display towards these workers. Perhaps this is because these construction workers did not participate in the nation building process. Hence, Singaporeans’ attitude towards Indian construction workers are generally based on their daily interaction and media’s portrayal of these construction workers. The Singapore government’s attitude and actions towards both groups have contributed to how Singaporeans perceive the two groups. The government did have some practical considerations when they decided to place emphasis on the Samsui women’s noble act and to suppress the Indian construction workers.
