Summary:Stress and fracture analysis was carried out for a pin loaded tapered attachment lug using the Boundary Element Method. The effects of geometric parameter variations such as the taper angles of the lug, the outer-to-inner diameter ratios and direction of loading on the tangential stress distribution were conducted. The location of the highest stress concentration factor was determined by finding the stress distribution on the inner radius of the lug. The outer radius of the tapered lug was kept unchanged. Cracks were also modeled at those critical locations. The analysis showed that taper angles, outer-to-inner diameter ratios have significant effect on the stress concentration factors and stress intensity factors.
