The study seeks to shed light on the knowledge domain of Malay Studies, particularly to provide a more holistic approach for information professionals within the field to undertake in the management of resources and guiding users. Additions to the UNISIST model are suggested to provide a more comprehensive information and communications system model for area studies, particularly that from the Global South. This study also seeks to include a peripheral Southeast Asian narrative in the library and information science (LIS) discipline whose traditional focus is on North America and Europe.
