Summary: | Despite the rise in digital media today, people still love to own physical books [1] since it provides readers with the best natural reading experience. However, not all book lovers are always able to afford to purchase new books especially with the rising costs of book printing today [2]. Libraries are not always accessible to everyone especially during the pandemic [3] and not all books that readers want are available in the libraries they visit [4]. Sometimes a book would only be read once or at least a few times by the reader before it is being left to collect dust or thrown out to remove clutter [5]. There should be an opportunity to give or swap unwanted books in good hands and free up space at home, take care of the environment, meet interesting people, or even find a rare book. The project aims to design and develop a book-sharing mobile application that acts as a decentralised library for each user to collect, share or exchange their printed books, and acts as a form of social networking platform for fellow book readers to expand their social network. The mobile app for this project is built with Flutter on Android Studio and services provided by Firebase, a Backend-as-a-Service such as the Firestore database. |
