Summary: | With the increase in world population, the demand for food has also increased, and traditional agricultural practices are not efficient enough to meet the food supply with its demand. Moreover, a decrease in natural water supply has also become a critical issue nowadays. As a result, technology incorporation in farming has become critical to enhance crop yield and water conservation. This study has proposed cost-effective Smart plant management and irrigation model that is applicable to both hydroponics and indoor farming. Irrigation deals with the artificial watering process of land at consistent intervals, and hydroponics is the practice of growing plants in a soilless medium. A Beetle plant was used to test the model efficiency. This IoT-based model detects the soil moisture and pH continuously to make the plant's external environment suitable for its growth and nourishment. The experiment lasted for fifteen days, and real-time data was analysed with ThingSpeak. Results revealed that it not only enhances crop yield but also eliminates monitoring overhead. In the future, researchers can implement this model in open-agriculture fields to test its effectiveness on a large scale. |
