Description
Summary:The static compression test method has been used universally to determine the characteristic of metallic materials. It has specific requirements by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) E9 test standard yet no reasons were provided for those requirements. Thus, it is necessary to study the acceptability of specimens for compression testing by varying their dimensions. In this project, the effect of volumetric imperfections on 6061-T6 Aluminum medium-sized cylindrical specimens in static compression tests was investigated. Only the effect on the measured yield strength was determined, which is reflected in the stress-strain curve profiles. Results indicate that volumetric imperfections affect the yield strength recorded of 6061-T6 Aluminum. The experimental results presented in this investigation also show that specimens with up to 13.572% volumetric imperfection will still measure comparable yield strength specified for 6061-T6 Aluminum (241.317MPa).
