Exploring the kinematics of hand motion through the use of motion capture and biomechanics software lifemodeller

The analysis of the thumb and finger range of motion has always been the focus of researchers studying the hand. Methods of measuring these motions include the use goniometers, fluoroscopy and more recently through the use of motion capture technology. This study explores the use of motion capture t...

Methods of measuring these motions include the use goniometers, fluoroscopy and more recently through the use of motion capture technology. This study explores the use of motion capture technology with the addition of using biomechanics software, LifeMod, in the kinematics and kinetics assessment of finger/thumb motion. This study would form the basis of further research and use of the software for dynamics assessment. It is shown from the results of the kinematic studies that LifeMod has the potential to be very useful software in biomechanics assessment. Furthermore, currently there are no known published data on the engagement in LifeMod to observe and analyze kinetics data from a kinematics model.
