| Summary: | This paper aims to investigate the factors that influence emigration attitudes. In this study undergraduate subjects were recruited as part of their course bonus point’s accumulation programme. The findings were that the perceived high financial needs of the parents resulted in participants having a greater desire to be overseas. Participants who perceived their parents to have high emotional needs also had a higher intention to remain overseas for a shorter period of time. Participants who perceived their parents to have high physical presence needs had lower satisfaction with life in Singapore; had less intention to stay in Singapore. National identity was also a significant moderator. It was also found that mothers had more influence over emigrating attitudes than fathers. |
