Study 1 took the form of semi-structured interviews with five mother-daughter pairs to obtain a preliminary understanding of the indigenous concept of love, from which the Singaporean Chinese Concept of Love scale was established. Study 2 sought to investigate the Singaporean Chinese concept of love quantitatively using the scale constructed in Study 1 and comparing it to the Triangular Love scale and the Revised Adult Attachment scale. It was found that the Singaporean Chinese concept of love shares overlapping core constructs with North American concept of love, but also has specific and unique factors separate from the North American and traditional Chinese concept of love.
