| Summary: | This study was conducted to look at the relationship between the parent and child’s endorsed cultural values, language use and intended /perceived parenting style in the three ethnic groups of Singapore. The study was based on a 2003 report by Koh and Chang. The variables were tested using the Singapore Chinese Value Scale (SCVS) and the Singapore Chinese Parenting Scale (SCPS). The results of the study indicated that only the home language predicted the endorsement of values thus proving the link between language and culture. Also endorsed values were found to be a predictor of the intended /perceived parenting style. Home language did not affect parenting styles. |
