Summary:Online games and avatars have presented a brand new way for people to not only interact with each other, but also as a way of expressing a newfound sense of freedom detached from that of real life. However, the issue of representation and communication for the individual player seems to be complicated by the limitations of avatars, as well as how ones sense of freedom may be at odds with other players. In this paper, I will be exploring more on these issues through the lens of Sartre’s arguments, particularly that of the look and bad faith , which may prove useful in gaining deeper insight on the matter.
