Summary: | The project aims to evaluate the accuracy and efficiency of two commonly used
adsorption isotherm parameters estimation methods, frontal analysis and binary
retention time methods, to estimate the parameters of a competitive Langmuir
isotherm. Adsorption in a chromatographic column was first modeled by the application
of equilibrium dispersion model and is later validated by conducting parametric studies
for Langmuir isotherm for single component and competitive Langmuir isotherm for
binary mixture.
The second part of the project consists of three different case studies to evaluate the
efficiency and accuracy of the two estimation methods. The first case study attempts to compare the accuracy and efficiency of the two methods by using common column parameters for both methods. The second and third case studies attempt to evaluate the effects of axial dispersion and mass transfer on the two methods by varying the axial dispersion and mass transfer coefficients in the generation of the elution profile which is used as a basis for estimation for both methods. |
