Description
Summary:Sustainability is becoming more and more important in keeping our earth safe. Sustainable is a key factor for materials, way of sourcing and manufacturing. Combining composites with organic materials creating a sustainable alternative to current materials. This study focus on creating carbonized laminated organic structures. Carbonizing organic materials is ethical and a great way to preserve and a source for carbons to use as materials. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the mechanical properties of carbonizing organic structures. Seaweed, kombu and binding agents like water, starch glue and glue stick were used in this study. Carbonized Seaweed displayed low compressive stress and modulus but high energy absorption efficiency with low density. Which is comparable to other absorption applicators.
