Summary:Leon Theremin chanced upon an idea that no one else in the world would have thought of – an instrument requiring no physical contact from the musician playing it. Since the creation of the theremin and the terpsitone, many others have explored similar concepts with varying tools and software. This project intends to continue the feasibility study of the Microsoft Kinect producing reasonable musical sounds by tracking a player’s body movements. The use of the Kinect SDK with the Unity game engine and Csound, a computer programming language for audio programming, was explored. Possible sounds to use with the Kinect was also researched.
