This leaves some, if not most, of the NTU community struggling to stay informed and updated on the events they are genuinely interested in. This problem is exacerbated by the lack of a centralised platform for event organisers or NTU staff members to share external events to targeted members as well as for interested members in the NTU community to venture, signup and keep track of events. A hybrid model encompassing 2 popular software development life cycle (SDLC) – Waterfall and Agile was chosen. The research methodology involved mixed method approaches that comprised of quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis. Usability studies which included observations, surveys and interviews were conducted on target users for requirement elicitation. Literature reviews on human computer interaction domains and best practices in event management and web application design were reviewed. This was followed by the design of the web application with usability principles and guidelines in mind for users of different backgrounds. Modifications were carried out after testing and evaluation where data collected from prototype testing was analysed both quantitatively and qualitatively. Lastly, this was then translated to the implementation of an event management web application, known as veNTUre– a one stop platform for event organisers / admin to post their events and for NTU community to explore and sign up for events they are interested in. The web application utilises Django as backend linked to PostgresSQL database and provides a main web portal for NTU community to browse and signup for events as well as an admin portal for admin and organisers to create, publish and manage their events and signups. Therefore, as an end goal, this research project aims to provide a better understanding of the requirements and pain points of event management as well as focus on the design and development of an event management web application, veNTUre. Ultimately, it is with the intent that the web application meets users primary needs, is reliable, standardised and consistent across different platforms with security principles in mind.
