Remote imaging probe for diffuse optical tomography
Diffuse Optical Tomography (DOT) uses light as an optical probe for imaging and tissue characterization studies. These include tissue oxygenation and blood volume studies which are essential in identifying tumor growths in the underlying tissues. Most of the technology currently uses contact optical...

Most of the technology currently uses contact optical probe where the imaging tool needs to be in contact with parts of the patients’ body. It has been widely accepted that light travels through body in a diffusive process. In this project, we review the theories that describe the diffusive process of photon propagation. These diffusing photons can be used to characterize optical properties of a turbid media. These are done by carrying out measurements on the intensity of the diffused photons. This project will be separated into 3 parts. The first part will be addressing the issues of the optical system building, including camera modifications issues that are associated with the design. The second part of the project will address issues on data processing, which refers to the software programming and equipments that are used. The final portion will address the experiments that are carried out.
