As a critical part of power management unit, step-down BUCK DC-DC converter is always asking for dedicated analysis and design. In order to improve the design efficiency so as to achieve optimal circuit performance in limited project schedule, this paper has provided two ways to perform circuit analysis before proceeding into the complex and tedious transistor level design. In this paper, D-CAP3 architecture is built and simulated on a powerful switch converter simulation platform SIMPLIS. The control loop stability and load regulation performance is studied based on those simulation data. It is proven to be a fast and convenient way to adjust circuit parameters and gain a basic grasp of potential effect brought by new circuit modules.Efficiency calculation is also described in detail. The calculation results with different inductor and DCM current peak value are compared with each other and with the transistor lever simulation result. It is proven to be helpful and reliable in power switch size fine tune, energy loss distribution analysis and inductor and DCM limit determination.
