Description
Summary:Power quality problems are faced by the utility and end user of electrical systems. Some common them are voltage sags, interruptions, transients and harmonic distortions. Such problems have been affecting the utility and the end users in such as way that financial losses are incurred when the daily activities are affected. As both parties are equally likely to be affected and the impact caused by these problems can be critical, there is a need to look into the solutions to them. Therefore, this project looks into the various technologies available in the markets that are developed to overcome the power quality problems of voltage sags and harmonic distortions. Their individual specifications have been researched to understand the extent of their technical effectiveness. Finally, an economic evaluation is carried out to determine their cost effectiveness. 5 different methods for evaluating the choices of power quality improvement are used and the final decision of choosing the type of technology will be dependent on the method of economic evaluation.
