Furthermore, many of them may be of a lower intellectual level for their age due to the condition and as a result, require the aid of caregivers in their daily life. Hence, my final year project comprised of a software in the form of a mobile application to mainly aid the care recipients to express themselves more clearly through implementing the technology of image-to-speech and also a fall detection hardware device with a separate mobile application which will get immediate help for the care recipients if they fall as these may happen quite frequently because the care recipients’ motor skills are badly affected by Down Syndrome as well. I was in charge of the development of the backend of the mobile application to support the features of the front-end of the mobile application which focused on the image-to-speech function. I had used a backend hosting services provider from Google known as Firebase and I had used its services for situations such as user authentication when users are logging in at our mobile application and the storage of user data in a cloud database and cloud storage. I have two other team members namely, Ma Rundi, who was in charge of developing the front-end of the mobile application with the image-to-speech function mainly and Vania Jang, who was in charge of building the fall detection hardware and the second separate mobile application for the device itself.
