Torsion of a functionally graded bar
The purpose of the Final Year Project is to analyse the mechanical properties and characteristics of a functionally graded rod. Computational and analytical solutions are derived based for homogenous and bi-layered cylinders undergoing pure torsion loading. The radial displacements curves are studie...

Computational and analytical solutions are derived based for homogenous and bi-layered cylinders undergoing pure torsion loading. The radial displacements curves are studied for various gradient effects and homogenous ones as well when doing commenting and comparing the curves plotted on the graph. The forces and stresses are formulated based on first Piola-Kirchoff stress. This study helps to give a better understanding of different materials and find the optimal behaviour for the gradient for best optimisation.
