Summary: | This report showcases the concept on how Direction of Arrival Estimation can be done using the Power Measurement Approach. At the initial stages, the Direction of Arrival estimation software system was created using MATLAB. This system formulates the estimation problem as a linear model and utilizes the non-negative least squares algorithm to estimate the direction of the transmitting signal. Next, values of the received power from a single directional antenna were used to prove that this proposed method is feasible.
Various experiments were conducted to obtain the power values. To make sure that the values obtained were not affected by multipathing, the experiments were done in a laboratory and at an outdoor environment. Experimental results obtained were promising, showing no degree of error for the outdoor experiment and six degrees of error for the indoor experiment. To further substantiate the Direction of Arrival (DOA) concept, two sources were used for further experiments conducted.
Results for the indoor and outdoor experiments which uses two sources showed an average of four and eight degrees of errors respectively. Further analysis work were done on the estimation results and factors influencing measurements accuracy were also elaborated. To conclude, problems encountered and further improvements for this project would be discussed. |
