Description
Summary:The stepper motor is well-known for its usage in machinery and systems, which requires high precision positioning control. The unique motor features associated with a driver that can control the position precisely eliminate the need for expensive sensing devices such as optical encodes. Designing and fabricating a stepper motor driver could offer better performance for installing the stepper motor on a system with certain specific requirements. In large systems, the real-time signals being sent to enable the stepper motor has to be controlled with high accuracy to prevent conflicts with other components in the system. This project aims to develop a driver that allows the user to precisely control the stepper motor’s features, including rotating speed, direction, duration, step resolution, etc. Learnings from designing motor drivers in one system also can be applied to many other systems that require the usage of stepper motors. The studies in this project also documented the methods for implementing specific features in stepper motor control based on the requirements provided.
