Demand for renewable sources of energy is growing. Wind energy accounts for nearly 20% of Spain’s electricity while the rest of Europe is slowly following suit. In Asia, China is the forerunner while the US has consistently been increasing its installed wind turbine capacity. As such, Singapore cannot afford to be lagging and may need to step up in its bid to be a true green city. This project aims to simulate an environment where users are able to tap into electricity converted from wind power and find out the cost and savings that they may incur. By using MatLab, such an environment can be created. The wind speeds may be predicted using past records from the Meteorological Division in NEA. By doing so and educating the general public, more will see the obvious benefits from wind turbine energy systems and start to realize its potential in Singapore. In this report, one will find the knowledge required to understand the basics of wind turbine energy systems along with the MatLab code that was written to provide a simulated environment.
