The elderly tag system aims to support the elderly with mild ailments to live independently for as long as they wish to. Firstly, the needs of the elderly and their caregivers were looked into. Secondly, existing products and technologies were analysed. Thirdly, the design of the elderly tag was done up using the information collected from the first 2 steps. The elderly tag system comprises of an elderly tag with 2 sensors (a pulse oximeter and heart rate sensor and an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU)) to collect the vitals of the elderly and a collector to communicate the information collected to the caregivers. Lastly, the paper will describe the process of implementing the design of the elderly tag system and the challenges faced. The implementation process includes learning the functionalities of CC1310, understanding the I2C communication protocol, learning how to operate the sensors, learning how to implement a Sub-1 GHz radio communication and drafting up a simple GUI to present the vitals collected. The final result of the project is the successful implementation of the pulse oximeter and heart rate sensor and a partial success in implementing the IMU.
