Summary: | The overall objective of the study is to provide reliable information on key factors affecting the economics of electricity generation using a range of technologies for Singapore. To address these issues, an energy model of Singapore from 2000 to 2030 is developed using the MARKAL framework
The model is an optimization tool designed to find the least cost strategies. For power generation technologies, it takes into account the financial risks as well as their economic performance.
Based on the analysis of the results, there are three significant findings in the scenarios. Namely, renewable energy is highly favourable due to its low emission of CO2 throughout it life cycle. Secondly if given a choice, it will favour a few technologies over the others unless boundaries are placed. Lastly, if there is a change in demand, it will only affect the electricity output and not the technologies used.
In conclusion, although the model does not fully reflect the entire Singapore energy situation, it is able to evaluate the potential technologies for electricity generating sector. It is to be noted that the preferred technologies depend on circumstances of each project and technology. |
