Description
Summary:Research on IoT applications have led to the development of AAL Devices. AAL devices are important as the population grows older, a large percentage of the elderly spend their time alone at home. To give the Elderly a modicum of safety and security, an inexpensive UWB indoor RTLS system was proposed. UWB is an increasingly popular tool for use in RTLS, with a wide bandwidth and high multipath fading capabilities it is hence an ideal candidate. Decawave UWB modules were used throughout this project. Anchors were placed around a room and trilateration positioning algorithm and Kalman filter optimization techniques were introduced and applied to accurately determine the position of a Tag. The performances were evaluated to demonstrate the accuracy of the system. It was concluded that Kalman Filters do to a certain degree improve on the measurement values obtained through the UWB module. The project shows encouraging results for UWB’s use in RTLS and demonstrates that positional degradation can be circumvented with the right filters and application.
