Description
Summary:Unlike conventional solid core optical fibers, the Hollow Core Fiber guides the light in its central hollow region assisted by microstructured cladding. In this project, light guiding properties of specifically Single Ring Negative Curvature Hollow Core Fibers that are fabricated at the Centre for Optical Fiber Technology (COFT) in NTU are studied and characterised. Light guiding models are examined through extensive literature reviews as well as tested through experiments. Likewise, experiments to measure loss in fiber, mainly transmission loss and bending loss, are designed, executed and evaluated. The influence of various structural parameters of the fiber on its light guiding properties are investigated in depth. Finally, Solid Core Fibers are studied, characterised and compared with Single Ring Negative Curvature Hollow Core Fibers in terms of light guiding properties.
