Description
Summary:Folktales have been part of human culture for centuries, and they have been used as a medium of entertainment, education, and socialisation. Introducing folktales to young children aged 4 to 6 years old can bring about numerous cognitive, socio-emotional and socialisation benefits. It also helps to impart cultural knowledge and desirable characteristics such as honesty and compassion to the children. In recent years, the use of Augmented Reality (AR) in the education sector has been increasing and this is accredited to its ability to provide multi-sensorial experiences and improve the students’ confidence and satisfaction levels in learning. As such, the objective of this project will be to develop a mobile application that leverages on AR technology to create an AR storybook based on a local Singaporean folktale. Key features of the mobile application include nine sets of 3D animations that were implemented via keyframes to complement the physical story book to attract the children’s attention and increase their reading comprehension levels through the provision of additional visual aids.
