Summary: | When shopping online has become the norm for Singaporeans, local neighborhood businesses are suffering to compete with the convenience and competitive prices. Shopkeepers in the heartlands have seen a drop in customers in recent years and are unsure of how to rejuvenate their businesses. While they have tried pushing out promotions or creating new displays on their shopfront, people will not know of their efforts unless they frequent the area.
The aim of the project to develop a mobile app for promoting the heartland shops and creating an eagerness for people to head down to these shops personally to find out more about these businesses. A list of generic neighborhoods of Singapore is shown, featuring different types of heartland shops available at most neighborhoods (e.g., pet stores, hardware stores, ice cream cart etc.). Users can click into a shop and play a tap-through minigame to understand the daily lives or operations of the shop owners. They will then receive in-game rewards upon winning the game.in |
