Application of artificial intelligence (AI) for 3D printing of concrete

We are facing a challenge as we emerge from the post-COVID 19 era as engineers must demonstrate their ability to build and create. As a result of the introduction of concrete 3D printing, labour costs were substantially reduced, and supply chain interruptions were eliminated. Despite its advantages,...

As a result of the introduction of concrete 3D printing, labour costs were substantially reduced, and supply chain interruptions were eliminated. Despite its advantages, concrete 3D printing poses many challenges. An issue involves irregular layer width during printing. In this study, the purpose is to demonstrate the ability of artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor printing while maintaining consistent filament width. One method to use edge detection method from OpenCV library, however we are open to explore more edge detection method as well. An analysis of the literature, the preparation and training of data using Mask RCNN, as well as the measurement of width were all involved in this research. In the absence of these specifications, the structure will be weak and, if it topples or crumbles, people will lose their lives.
