Description
Summary:Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has been around since the World War II. In recent years, the use of RFID in many areas of the business has been increasing, such as supermarkets, supply chain and theft prevention. EPCglobal is an organisation that produces the standard to use RFID in the supply chain scenario. EPCglobal is made up of several representatives from the major players of the industry. The Final Year Project consists of two portions. The first part is to develop an application for TechLicensing Fair 2008, to capture which booths that the visitors visit during the Fair. The readers are provided by FeRmi Pte Ltd, a local RFID company. The application is required to read and filter duplicate RFID tag data and time of the visitors’ visit, through the use of a simple middleware and store into the database. At the end of the fair, application would be terminated the user would be able to extract and filter off duplicate data and write the filtered data into a text file. The other part of the project requires the development of a middleware and capture application for a particular business scenario in the supply chain. A graphical user interface (GUI) would also be developed to control the middleware and capture application. The middleware would filter off any duplicate tag data and allow the capture application to capture the tag data and assign to the particular product of an order. The RFID industry has a lot of potential for development, especially when all the major industrial players implement the EPCglobal standard in the supply chain. The supply chain would have increased visibility and efficiency after implementation, and the cost of production of goods can be lowered with higher accuracy of enterprise resource planning.
