Description
Summary:The evolving 802.16 WiMAX standard offer the possibility of high data rate wireless access for home and business users as broadband wireless systems supporting data rates are always in great demand in the market due to their performance and feasibility in use. Compared to current wireless standards for data communication in applications such as Internet, WiMAX provides high data rate transmission in a large coverage area. Modern CMOS technology provides good solutions to the RF circuits of required performance cost-effectively. One of the key building blocks in these systems is the low noise amplifier (LNA) in the receiver. In this work, literature review and analysis will first be done to tabulate the receiver specifications of a WiMAX transceiver. The design of an LNA that meets the WiMAX requirements will then be performed. The tasks required for this project will include circuit design and circuit simulation using Cadence Spectre RF and necessary circuit analysis. Low power requirements are the major consideration in this project. A few LNA designs which may be able to meet the wideband and multi-band requirements are also discussed. Frequency band is designed to be around 2.3 ~ 2.7GHz. Operating voltage is 1.8V. CMOS 0.18m CSM technology was used for the proposed design and WiMAX specifications are met satisfactorily.
