A background review of current System of Systems concepts and finding is summarized in this report. Next, a framework was drawn up for distinguishing System of Systems from complex systems using the seven discriminators which was derived from various published papers. In the framework, the degree of System of Systems that a system exhibits is measured against a set of characteristics. Understanding the degree of SoS that the system exhibits will help in future planning and implementation of large scale airport complex so that planners would understand and improve the shortfalls in current systems. The benefits of studies on SoS is tremendous. This will assist in planning of large scale interoperable projects such as Airport Complex and Defense Projects. This makes the construction and operation of the complex system more effective, efficient and economical. Changi Airport was chosen as a case study to validate the SoS characteristics framework. The framework which consists of 3 steps is used to evaluate Changi Airport. In the first stage, Changi Airport is being evaluated to determine if it has SoS characteristics. Next the degree of SoS of SoS for Changi Airport is determined. In the final step, the evaluation of performance was tested on Changi Airport. This project aims to give an overview of System of Systems which is a relatively new concept.
