Lee Keok Kee School of Computer Engineering DRNTU::Engineering::Computer science and engineering::Computer systems organization::Computer-communication networks This final year project aims to address the problem that every parent in Singapore faces, which is controlling their child’s access to the home PC. With the growth of technology, Internet access can be found in almost every household of Singapore. However, with the easy access to Internet, children are exposed to the hidden danger of unsafe Internet websites and applications. Working parents will be too busy to guide their child on the correct use of the PC and the Internet. This gives rise to the need of a Parental Control application. The project therefore aimed to develop a user friendly yet practical parental control application that can be even used by parents without common computer knowledge. The proposed system would be applicable to Windows XP Operating System as it is the most common Operating System used today. This application was developed using Visual C# as the programming language and most of the features were referenced from different Parental Control software that can be found in the market today. For this project, the developer made use of simple algorithm such that the application won’t use up much of the memory or CPU resources, compared to other Parental Control Software found in the market. With user friendly interface, parents can start using the application immediately after reading through the instructions. Therefore, just by a few mouse clicks, parental control in a home PC can easily be achieved. With this, the developer hopes to solve the problem faced by every parent in Singapore – how to control your child access to the home PC.
