Description
Summary:This project studies the campus shuttle bus services during the morning peak hour in NTU using a simulation model in order to optimize the bus services and reduce waiting time and commuting time of passengers. The ARENA simulation software, a discrete event simulation and automation software, was used to create the simulation model for the Campus Red and Campus Blue shuttle services in NTU. This report documents the simulated results of average waiting times and commuting times for the different changes made to the current shuttle bus service. This report begins with the background and literature review to provide the necessary information regarding the current shuttle bus service in NTU, bus network optimization and simulation modelling. The designing and explanation of the simulation model was discussed and shown, followed by the collection of data to be input into the model, and the verification and validation of the simulation model. Finally, various scenarios of the simulation model were discussed and explained, and different simulated average waiting times and commuting times were obtained. Following that, a comparison was conducted between the various scenarios and the current existing system to deem if the performance has improved. To conclude the paper, recommendations to improve the current system, as well as improvements for future work were also introduced.
