Summary:Global warming and increasing greenhouse gases emission have been the most serious challenges in the 21st century. Although cooling appliances such as refrigerators and air conditioners can provide chilling experiences, the greenhouse gases emitted can lead to more serious long-term environmental issues. As one of the potential solutions, passive radiative cooling uses thermal radiation as the main heat dissipation mechanism. The cooler is designed to reflect radiation that lies in visible light spectrum and emit infrared waves. Based on this theory, different radiative coolers have been designed, such as spray coatings and paints with cooling abilities. This work aims to investigate the possibility of utilizing evaporative cooling as an assistive cooling mechanism on a passive radiative cooler. Besides, this work also aims to fabricate a cooling paint which implements both radiative cooling and evaporative cooling. Experiment results show that the sample can hit an overall solar reflectance of 95.6%. In the cooling test, an average of 1.5℃ of temperature difference below ambient temperature is recorded, which proves the possibility of implementing evaporative cooling into passive cooling paint.
