Yet, scholars have generally not addressed how the Singaporean government’s responses, its proposed legislations, and perceptions from the Singaporean public, impact the way the LGBTQ+ community conceptualize their national belonging and identity. It is with these questions in mind that we embarked on a project to delineate the feelings of gay men and lesbian women towards the nation and how their sense of belonging and national identity has been affected by these national discourses, material practices, laws, and policies.
