Description
Summary:This report on the author’s Final Year Project “Study the Density of Nanotube Fibers” provides readers with an overview of carbon nanotube (CNT) with regards to their growth mechanism, structural properties, morphologies and the various synthesis methods used for growth of carbon nanotube, with particular emphasis on the chemical vapor deposition technique and the growth parameters of this technique affecting the mass density of nanotube fibers. The report’s main emphasis will be on the progress and work done by the author in relating changes in the mass density of nanotube fibers such as CNT array and bundle to growth conditions, site density of CNTs, packing and alignment of CNTs array, morphologies of synthesized CNTs and impurities present with respect to the various preparatory methods of CNTs. The significance of carbon nanotube mass density measurement with regards to the mechanical properties of materials and the various experimental and density measurement methodologies will be mentioned in this report. Furthermore, readers will be introduced to various preparatory methods of CNTs fibers, their mechanical properties and factors affecting their spin-ability. Finally, improvements that can be done to the experimental procedures and future work will also be elaborated in the final section of this report.
