Description
Summary:The periodic table forms the basis for many chemistry concepts. It is, thus, an important part of chemistry education. This project shows the elements of the periodic table as 3D models, providing an alternative to the commonly used models such as the 2D dot-and-cross-diagrams, which might not be adequate illustration. It aids students in visualising the elements in the periodic table. The models would be especially helpful for students who are not as adept at visualising in 3D without tangible objects. In addition, the deliberateness in the arrangement of the periodic table is also explored. The purposeful arrangement is evident in that there are consistent properties of the elements, both down the groups and across the periods. The common traits identified helps students with various concepts such as how the element will behave when forming compounds. Arranged in the format of the periodic table, this application helps the students get familiar with using the periodic table and discerning the inherent properties from the arrangement.
