Mobile Ad Hoc Networks provide rapidly deployable and self-configuring network capacity required in many critical applications, e.g. battle field, disaster relief and wide area sensing. Data delivery is a problem in sparse Ad Hoc networks where network partitions can last for a significant long time and therefore end-to-end paths may not exist between nodes. In this project we consider a Message Ferry approach to address the problem. In the Message Ferry scheme, a set of special mobile nodes called message ferry are responsible for carrying data for nodes in the network. We study several message ferries algorithms including both single ferry algorithms and multi ferries algorithms. We simulate these algorithms under different network environments to evaluate their performance. We focus on the delay, delivery rate and buffer requirement of message ferry algorithms and develop improvements based on existing algorithms. Our goal is to investigate existing message ferry algorithm designs and understand the tradeoff between quality of service and cost. We have shown that Improved Multi-Routes Algorithm (Improved MURA) satisfies the requirement well in terms of high delivery rate, low delay and low buffer requirement.
